Many young companies start off successfully but soon find that dynamism, joy at work, and ease begin to wane.
Building an agile organization from the start lays the foundation for successful growth without the typical growing pains.
The Story
Prodecon’s current journey began in 2012 when the two managing directors left their secure jobs at Deutsche Bank and in education to take over the company.
At that time, Prodecon was an established market player but operated more like a sole proprietor’s business. The new owners aimed to transform it into a full-fledged company, though they initially did not fully grasp the differences.
Despite Prodecon’s solid economic foundation from the outset, the new directors soon felt the first signs of growing pains. This marked the beginning of our collaboration.
During our initial meetings, they expressed concerns such as:
These fundamental questions required time and a clear head to address. So, we rented a mountain cabin and spent 3 days there. This retreat was crucial for laying the groundwork for everything that followed. Since then, we have made the „House in the Mountains“ an annual event, though now shorter and involving the entire staff.
The Present Day
Prodecon now employs 6 permanent and as many freelance staff. The concept of management is now more symbolic; in practice, everyone works equally towards common success. The company operates under a shared vision and is entirely agile. Each year, during the „House in the Mountains,“ the vision is reviewed, the strategy updated, and annual goals set, with input from all employees. Every quarter, the team sets priorities for the next 3 months. In weekly meetings (around 45 minutes), all tasks (both corporate development and daily operations) are transparently tracked using an adapted SCRUMBAN logic. Before any task is completed, the team decides whether it will be handled by an individual who has full discretion or if others will be involved. This approach ensures speed while also allowing for participation. Prioritization follows the question: “Which tasks are most important for Prodecon?” Only after answering this question is it determined who will handle each task.
The flexibility ensures that the company is not reliant on any single person. Tasks are either shared among several people or described in a way that any staff member can perform them.
This flexibility allows each employee to dedicate at least 20% of their work time to company development and creative endeavors.
Today, Prodecon is a vibrant, proactive company that continuously evolves. We are proud to be a part of it.
„Imagine a world where business success and job satisfaction are inseparable.“
